New at Casablanca ComicsTuesday, August 25, 2009Children's Comic Book Event & Book Signing DON'T LOOK NOWA Children's Comic Book Exhibit & Book Signing Maples Gelateria 151 Middle Street, Portland, Maine (Across the Hall from Casablanca Comics) Opening & Book Signing Friday, September 4th 5:00 - 8:00 PM (Exhibit Thru the End of September) Come view Ed Briant's candy-colored artwork as it plays out in comic book panels. The panels make up Briant's hilarious new book, DON'T LOOK NOW, a madcap escalation of a toy tug-of-war complete with flying gelato for readers aged 3-60. If you attend this swell exhibit across the hall from us at Maples Gelateria and sign the guest book, your favorite school or public library could win free books by Ed Briant. Visit during the opening to meet Ed Briant and purchase a signed copy of his picture book/comic books DON'T LOOK NOW or IF YOU LIVED HERE, YOU'D BE HOME BY NOW. (A purchase gives your library 2 chances to win.) All those who have been envious of the toys (or bowls of ice cream) of others will laugh at this delightful upsurge in jealousy. The characters are not laughing, though, as their high jinx drop them straight into a land of monsters with only a broken down bicycle for escape. Briant's illustrations have appeared in six children's books including the soon to be released, IF YOU LIVED HERE, YOU'D BE HOME BY NOW and in the comic strip THE SLUSH PILE. Briant teaches Illustration at Savannah College of Art and Design and haunts Portland, Maine in the off months. Signed books and prints will be for sale at Casablanca Comics at the September 4th opening and throughout the month. Sign the Artist Guest Book and your favorite library could win free books from Ed Briant! There will be a guest book at that exhibit asking people to name their favorite school or public library. The top 3 libraries named will win a signed copy of DON'T LOOK NOW and a poster. The top library will also receive a copy of Ed's September release, IF YOU LIVED HERE, YOU'D BE HOME BY NOW (Roaring Brook Press). People that buy the book, will get to enter their favorite library twice.
